Bio + Journey \ Amy Skinner

Amy Skinner, LLB, BCL, is the founder and principal of Amy Skinner Law, a Calgary practice built on deep expertise in real estate, wills and estate planning, and family law, with a recognized specialization in Canadian fertility law and surrogacy agreements.

Amy received both her civil law (BCL) and common law (LLB) degrees from McGill University in 2007. Her career has taken her from New York City to the City of Calgary’s legal team before she opened her own firm in 2017. For nearly a decade, Amy has guided clients through some of life’s most meaningful and complicated transitions, offering grounded advice and compassionate representation.

Originally from Alberta, Amy has lived and worked across Canada and around the world, including Montreal, Vancouver, Kingston, New York, and Mumbai. Her experiences—teaching at Kingston’s Prison for Women, working abroad, and even a brief contract with Club Med in the Dominican Republic—have shaped her perspective and strengthened her ability to support others through challenge and change. A committed feminist, a proud lesbian, and an advocate for the LGBTQ2S+ community, Amy brings a rich, inclusive, and worldly lens to every client she serves.

After many rewarding years running her independent practice, Amy is entering a new chapter in her professional journey. Effective January 1, 2026, she will be joining Caron & Partners, allowing her to focus more fully on legal work while gaining the support of a larger team. This transition reflects an evolution in her career—one rooted in growth, continuity, and an even greater commitment to serving clients with care, clarity, and expertise.

Though she has many stories to tell, Amy is always ready to listen to yours. She understands complex family dynamics, modern family-making, and the emotional realities that shape the legal questions people bring to her door.
